Eyes On The Prize

Shooting glases can make a world of difference when it comes to any target shooting… Specially, since anytime you are shooting a firearm YOU SHOULD BE wearing safety glasses!!! If you dont have eye protection when heading to a range they will most likely loan you or sell you a cheap pair of glasses for under $5. Now these glasses will keep your eyes safe and work great if you are just out to shoot and have a good time. However, if your goal is to become an avid professional or competitive shooter then you will want to invest into a pair of high quality and durable shooting glasses.

Glasses can range from as cheap as $2 to over a $1000 and for the most part you get what you pay for. The lower end glasses are purely designed to protect your eyes and do not add value to your shooting experience. Higher end glasses are designed and tested with the shooter in mind. They include features that help you see targets with great clarity all while protecting your eyes and keeping you comfortable.

Some feature to look for when buying glasses:

  • Are they designed with the shooter in mind or just off the shelf safety glasses
  • Will they be comfortable to wear for long periods of time
  • Do they have changeable lenses to allow for shooting in different light situations
  • Do they sit correctly on the face so that the frames do not block your view of the targets when in flight
  • Do they allow enough space between your face and the lenses to prevent fogging

If you have $100-$200 to invest we recommend purchasing some Ranger Model glasses from Randolph Engineering. All of their ranger series models feature high quality light frames, special glass lenses that will not have distortion usually caused by lens curve and are designed to sit high on your nose allowing you to see your targets without obstruction when your head is tilted forward and in shooting position.

For those that dont want to break the bank you can still find great glasses for around $30-$100 at any hunting or sporting store that are still designed specifically for shooters.
